A Closer Loot At: Fender Squires
December 17, 2007
The Fender Squire is the latest version of the Fender Stratocaster. For those of you who don’t know, Fender is a company that makes guitars, and Stratocaster is a starter guitar series. A Squire is a great way to go for anybody who wants to learn guitar. They are inexpensive, and come with an amplifier, a cord, a gig bag, and a tuner.
Squires, unlike many Straocasters, plays perfectly and is very durable. I would recommend it over many other starter brands, which can cost up to $100 more. Squire guitars generally run from $150 to $200, which is relatively cheap for a guitar. it will definitely last you until you can purchase a higher quality guitar.
Overall rating: 8/10

Two Teams: Athletic Solution
December 14, 2007
As most of you know, Wakefield’s sports teams only have one team for each sport except club teams. When 7th graders try out it is hard for them to make a team, and 6th graders can’t play sports. So I think that there should be two teams. A varsity team and a junior varsity team. This way the very best 7th graders could make the varsity team along with the 8th grader. Also the runner-up 7th graders could be on a team and play other school’s J.V. team. If this would pass the wake county school district board in the atheletic deparment maybe 6th graders could try out for the J.V. team if that passes too. Maybe Wake County will consider this and give more kids a chance to have extra physical activities.

Your own Factory on Your Desktop – The 3-D Printer
December 6, 2007
Imagine this – You are sitting at your desk writing, and all of the sudden your pen breaks clean in half. You fire up your printer, download the specifications for your pen from the Internet, load it into your printer, and about an hour later, you have a new case for your pen! Or the handle on your favorite coffee mug breaks and you want to fix it. Load it into your printer and an hour later, glue it right back on! You didn’t even have to leave your house. But what, might you ask, is this contraption? – a 3 dimensional printer. Yes, I know the first thing that comes to your mind. How in the world can you print 3-D objects? The process is very simple. Most industrial strength 3-D printers today use expensive lasers to heat up the plastic used to make an object. The Desktop Factory uses a 5 dollar halogen bulb to heat it up. The light heats up the plastic, and once it is pliable to work with, it is rolled onto a drum, cut to the specific shape, and then rolled over again onto the surface, where it is actually being built from the bottom up instead from side to side – layer by layer(each layer is about 1 millimeter). Once it reaches the top, the plastic hardens and then you may paint it and add a glossy finish to it, if you want. Depending on how big the object you are printing is, it will take about on hour on average.
You can make virtually anything you want with this printer, with size as the only exception. The maximum size right now you can make is a 5×5x5 inch object, but they are planning on making this bigger in the future. Also, considering the price to other 3-D printers, the price is exceptionally low. Other printers in use today can cost anywhere from 50 to 500 thousand dollars! The Desktop Factory right now, costs only about five thousand dollars. It is about the size of a microwave oven or a laser printer, and weighs about 90 pounds. Plus, there isn’t a limit to what you can do with the things you make! Keep it, give it away, or even sell it. It’s your own factory sitting right on your desktop. desktopfactory.com
Specifications:
Size: 25 x 20 x 20 inches(about the size of a microwave oven)
Weight: 90 pounds
Maximum print size: 5 x 5 x 5 inches

A Longer Lunch is a MUST!
December 6, 2007
Think about this…how many times have you left the cafeteria starving? Maybe you didn’t have enough time to eat because of the long line, and now all you can think about for the rest of the day is a wonderful dinner when you get home! Because of this dilemma, you cannot focus on you school work.
How many of you would like a longer lunch? Or maybe extra time to eat? Scientists have proved that having a full meal helps you think better and be more successful. The only problem is that we can’t have a full meal because we don’t have enough time to finish our lunch!
Say we do have a longer lunch. Then we could all satisfy our eager stomachs so we could come back to class and promptly get back to our work without the distractions of our next meal. How many of you would like that? Hopefully, some time in the near future we will all get our long-awaited longer lunches, therefore focusing better and working harder during class!
The Real Story of How Pink Poodles Came to Be
December 6, 2007
It was a very sunny afternoon when Tom the fish was on his Sunday walk through the reef. All the clams were chirping merrily as he passed, and the fountain bubbled constantly. He was about to go home when all of a sudden, the sun was blocked out all around him. Sweat arose from his brow as he slowly looked upward to meet eyes with a deadly predator. Read more
