Book Review: Code Orange
January 21, 2008

The book fair has ended at Wakefield Middle School, and as many of you know, Code Orange, by Caroline B. Cooney, was one of the most sought after books available. I, loving books of that sort, eagerly waited to purchase a copy, which proved difficult, because the book fair sold out numerous times, along with my local bookstore.
I, among many people wished to become a part of the epic of Mitty Blake, and the 102 year old smallpox scabs that he finds. After a week of waiting, a bought a copy, but was almost insulted by how terrible the ending was.
I hate to be the bringer of bad news, but after all of the buildup, you are expecting some big ending, but instead there is some 2-page knock-off ending that doesn’t do anything for anybody. also, throughout the book, the main character has a lack of intelligence in several areas that left me thinking “How could anybody be so stupid as to do that?” the horrible ending completely cancels out the interesting storyline. I send apologies to all you Cooney fans, and if you like this kind of book, try The Andromeda Strain, by Michael Crichton. You will definitely be more satisfied.
