Film Critics Awards: Andrew Y. Breaks it Down

The Los Angeles film critics association has become populist on its picks for best movies of 2008 choosing the animated smash “WALL-E” as no. 1 and the Batman movie “The Dark Night” as runner-up on Tuesday.

Sean Penn was named Best Actor for his fim biography “Milk,” while Sally Hawkins recieved Best Actress prize for the British comic drama “Happy-Go-Lucky.”

The late Heath Ledger won the critics group’s supporting actor honor for his turn as the Joker in “The Dark Night,” while Penelope Cruz was chosen for supporting actress in the Woody Allen romance “Vicky Cristina Barcelona,” as well as her role in the drama “Elegy.”  -Andrew Y.

The Book Fair by Andrew R.

The 2008 WMS Bookfair has passed once again. There were many old, but still popular books, and yet also many new ones adding to the sagas. The Warriors series from the original books up to The Power of Three collection were included, along with others like the first two Diary of a Wimpy Kid and the newly released Diary of a Wimpy Kid: Do It Yourself book! Manga books, such as Bone, were also sold. We had 14 different posters being sold this year, with a blowout on knicknacks and trinkets. Thre were mushroom erasers (Which had a resembalence to the ones from Mario) and bendy pencils, from peace dogtags to plain supplies. Twilight was probally the best selling book at the Bookfair, and even if you didn’t go to the Bookfair, you can tell its popular since there are so many holds on it in the library- it can take weeks to get your hands on a copy! Overall, we have had a very productive Bookfair this year.

REVIEW: This song actually surprised me. I expected a rather slow, more like a gang-like rap, but instead I received a rock-like rap, full of funny reasons for Al to sue people. My overall rating is 7.

Bruegers bagels!

The other morning Savanna and Payton went to Bruegers Bagels. We were baffled with the wide variety of bagel and cream cheeses they had. There were many to choose from! Savanna decided on a cinnamon sugar bagel with honey walnut cream cheese. While Payton got a chocolate chip with honey walnut cream cheese. Payton says that it would have been better with regular cream cheese, but still was good. Savanna thought hers was perfect! We both recommend that skip that fattening breakfast from IHOP, and get a amazing bagel from Bruegers!

A Family that Preys

This was a good movie. If you like funny, sad, happy ,and a thrilling movie then you should go see a Family that Preys. This movie is about two family’s where the moms are good friends.  The moms are totally different, but they happen to be very close. Each family have their own problems. One family is giving and thoughtful people, while the other family is money hungry.  Alice one of the characters tries to raise her daughters to do whats right. One of the daughters get that concept the other daughter seems to care more about herself other than other people’s feelings. I think that this movie is a big lesson about how you should treat people.  This movie is life-changing!

Skatepark At Factory (Delicious)

Hi my name is Thomas, and I have been skating for a while and have been to a few skate parks around Wakefield. One my favorite is Delicious at the Factory.

Today im going to rate it out of 10 for how good the store is. When I first walked in I saw a little shelf of boards which were very small compared to the Vertical Urge store. The guy at the counter was very nice and so were the employees. The admission fee was $8 for first time. If you got a membership you need to cough up $200 but when you go in, it’s free and a 20% of everything there you can buy. When you go into the park it’s very big and really nice. But some of the ramps are sketchy and need to be replaced. There is an outside with a bowl, a snake, ramps, and one gap. Inside there is a bottom with a 9Ft ramp, a fun box, and a 6ft ramp.

Upstairs is fun but its not really good if you’re a street skater. Go outside for street. When I was tired I walked to the store but was sicken when I passed the bathrooms. They smelled horrible and was hard to pass the horrible smell to the inside store. When I arrived and took a good smell of fresh air. I looked at the boards the store made to sell to skaters. They were magnificent, what artwork they put into them. And the shirts they made were really cool in a lot of different colors.

From the snack bar they had Monster energy, yoo-hoo, Coke, Pepsi, orange soda, g2, Gatorade, plain water, sprite, and red bull. For snacks they had Twix, snickers, Hershey, combos, Oreo packets, and a lot of other weird snacks.

Overall it was a fun skate park. Sanitation was okay but the park was good overall. I give it a 8/10.

Warriors Book Review

Over the year I have read a really awesome series called Warriors!! Warriors is written by an amazing writer called Erin Hunter! This series just blew me away with is unique vocabulary and it’s from the point of view of a cat, how cool is that?! In this series, cats have four clans called.. River clan, Wind clan, Thunder clan, and Shadow clan! Each cat has their own duty in the clan such at leader, deputy, medicine cat, and the many warriors. The leader is given nine lives and the name “star” from Star clan. Star clan is a group made up of the clan’s ancestors and gives guidance and even prophecies to the clans! Each clan also has a deputy who will later be leader. Every clan also has a medicine cat, which communicates with star clan and heals sick or injured cats. Medicine cats gather every quarter moon to share dreams with star clan. Clan rivalries do not apply to the medicine cats, and they have peace with other clans, and usually help each other. Mostly each clan is made up of warriors, the cats who fight in battles and patrol the borders, whole following the warriors code. Warriors train apprentices until they are six moons, meaning months, old.

Skateboards – A Review

Skateboarding has been around for a least 20 years and has been taken to the X games for being a extreme sport.  The boards are my real issue; and I help you figure out which are the best and the worst.

Best: Zero: These boards are amazing, are not heavy, not very breakable, and has good pros on the team

Flip: Okay boards. Can’t say they’re bad because Ali Boulala is on the team and also there indestructible
Alien workshop: Good boards for the money. They are okay but a little on the heavy side. Go Rob if know what  mean.
Creature: Never break at all very strong and very good for price to have for a long time.
Almost: Light boards good for street
Girl: Same as alomost about

Bad Boards: Toy Machine: ok seriously these boards are just horrible never get them at all
Bird house: ok but not bad i would put it in between good and bad
Target boards: 25$ for a good board yea right
Blind: poser boards
Zoo york: Poser boards

The Darkside Haunted House: Will YOU go Insane?

Are you easily scared? Light-hearted? Then this is a place that will SCARE YOU SILLY! A trail, full of frightening creatures, a meat house, a vampire camp, a maze of the scariest clowns ever, and much, much more. According to the man who greets you at the start of this pants-wetting journey, the grounds is 40 acres of terror. Unfortunately, it’s less than that. More like, 3 acres or so? Anyway, the trail is a warm-up, full of strange “experiments”. The meat house has a frightening secret that most try to hide, and several creatures are out to get you. This was the most scary house ever. I was terrified, and I’m sure you will too. If not, you must have a strange addiction to going to creepy haunted houses.

Welcome new readers, I am Andrew R. I shall be reviewing local eateries at least once a month. First, I have reviewed Wakefield Middle School’s Cafeteria food for the date of 10/22/08.
My menu included spaghetti with breadstick, cinnamon baked apples, tossed salad with ranch dressing, a chocolate chip cookie for dessert, and chocolate milk. Let us begin.

The spaghetti was very cheesy, but there was far too much cheese-basically, it was cheese casserole with a tasty breadstick. The baked apples were perfect, with the right amount of cinnamon. The tossed salad was adequate, but could use even a small amount of tomato, and maybe even a packet of cheese to add. The chocolate milk was refreshing, but could use a better taste of chocolate. The cookies have perfect dough, with rich tasting chocolate, either milk chocolate or white chocolate. Overall, my rating was seven and one half out of 10. (7½ out of 10) The sanitation said 99. That concludes my review of the Wakefield Middle School cafeteria.
