Seek First to Understand
December 16, 2008
I think what “seek first to understand” stands for is that you cannot just jump to conclusion like that. You have to know were the other person is coming from. To do that, you would have to see both their side of the story and yours. When you do that, you could see that there is always some misunderstanding.
How I think it will affect me in my life is that maybe I will not get as mad all the time. Also, I will be able to see what I did wrong as well. It could also help me to not lose a friend. That is what ”seek first to understand” means to me and how it could affect me.
Know Your Rights
December 10, 2008
As a student at Wakefield Middle School, I believe that we should still have the rights to keep our property, meet as a group, and to be heard and represent ourselves if accused. These three rights are some of the same rights the colonists fought for. In keeping our property, such as our cell phones, the school is not allowed to take our phones and keep them for their own use. This was like the right that the colonists were given. They had the right to own their land and not to have it taken away by legislation for no reason. We are allowed to meet as a group in school if it is school related or just wanting to talk with a group of friends. The colonists had to fight to gain this right to form societies. As a student we are also allowed to be heard and represent ourselves. If you are accused of something you usually have the right to present you side of the story. The colonists were often accused and never given the right to speak. If as students, we lost these rights, we would want to have nothing to do with school and would not have any reason to support the school. The students would have to fight for their rights all over again just like the colonists. I also think that if we were to lose our rights, our school would be out of control from all of the rebellion and arguments.
Basketball!
November 3, 2008
The beat of the ball marks my heart,
Times like this I hope to play smart,
My calves burning, crying out in pain,
Sprinting down court they think I’m insane,
A thirteen year old shooting ’till 10 o’clock, they’re here,
Shot by shot I take as they stare,
They ask why I do it so much, why do I care,
I cannot say anything to them, they just don’t understand,
How it’s special to have many fans,
They don’t understand how hard it was to get here,
How I went through disappointment,
confusion, attitude, and fear,
How I played through injury, serious and not,
How I played in the rain, and when it was hot,
How I studied and learned the entire game,
To be at the top, so they could remember my name,
And so as I stand here, the bright sun burning my face,
I know I belong here, this is my place,
So when those people ask why I do this all day,
I say, because I love it, and I’m here to stay,
Basketball is my passion- everyday
Gas Prices
November 3, 2008
Lately gas prices are very high. People would hardly go out to any places. It’s been least four dollars high. I know how it feels to be bored and nothing to do. I asked my parents to take me some where and they would say forget it. We can’t afford to waste gas. I think now gas prices are lowering down for four dollars. I can at least go to places not that many, but at least enough not to be bored. I glad gas prices are lowering fast I think so are my parents.
Come to a Dance Committee Meeting!
November 1, 2008
School Dances are not very exciting. My goal this year is to make the dances something to remember. To do that, we need your ideas. The dance for this winter is going to be Snowflake themed. Besides that, we still need something to make it really exciting. If you want to help us, come to one of the dance committee meetings.
This year we are going to be making our own decorations. If you can help make them, that’s great. Making snow flakes is easy! All you need is white paper, scissors and some glitter. To learn how to fold them, come to one of the meetings. Please help us by making a list of ideas to make the dance something more memorable.
Leadership
October 24, 2008
The definition of a leader is a guiding or directing head, as of an army, movement, or political group. A leader is someone who leads, who stays in the front. A follower is someone who follows leaders and stays behind everyone else. What does this mean to you? Are you a leader? Think about it. Here are some quotes that leaders have said that I would like to share with you…
“Winning is not a sometimes thing, it’s an all the time thing. You don’t win once in a while; you don’t do the right thing once in a while, you do them right all the time. Winning is a habit. Unfortunately, so is losing.”
-Vince Lombardi
“Pain is temporary. Quitting lasts FOREVER.”
-Lance Armstrong
“A man who has never gone to school may steal from a freight car; but if he has a university education, he may steal the whole railroad.”
-Theodore Roosevelt

JOKE:
Two thieves are robbing an apartment hear the owner coming home. “Quick, jump out the window.” says the first robber. “Are you crazy? We’re on the 13th floor!” says the second robber. The first robber replies “This is no time to be superstitious!”
Know any funny jokes or weird facts? Let me know and I’ll post them.
Dirt-mound on Wheels
January 21, 2008
It’s like a dirt-mound on wheels, and all the germs kids spread don’t help. We will not abide to riding on a bus where window sills are crusted over in brown, the seats are covered in junk, and the floor is covered in dried, cracked mud and trash. It reminds me of animal cruelty when animals are forced to live in their feces. We do not want to go to school, or anywhere else for that matter, in a big brown cage of muck.
Maybe the kids do put the garbage on the floor, but it’s not our our fault about all the dirt. Once in a while the board and drivers should consider washing not only the outside, but the inside too. Sure sweeping the floor helps, but what if the dirt is caked to the floor just like the windows? It just spreads and makes more. Of course they might not like it, but their abusing our air. All of our air and the buses too. One day our buses will be filth free and we can continue our journey to good health.
Peeps Page Issue #1
January 14, 2008
This page is all about the readers. You write to me solutions to a situation and I choose fifteen to twenty different answers from you. I will also have weekly polls about school, sports, holidays and sometimes just whatever I think of. You readers can also email me new ideas for polls. This space your reading now is where the results for last weeks polls will go. Since this is my first ever issue of for this website I don’t have any answers for any polls. You can also write in what you thought of this page.
Heres the first situation I’m throwing the readers way: Imagine you arrived at Jellybeans a little late Friday night. You had asked you “guy friend” if he wanted to meet you there and he said no. Well when you get inside and you’re getting your skates, you see your “guy friend” couple skating with one of your best friends. What would you do?
Now I have a question for you readers: If one of your friends spread a horrible rumor about you what would you do?
Now your probably asking yourself how do I submit my opinion? Well get your email address or your parents email and send me your solution to macy@whatsupwakefield.com But please try to keep it clean, thats all I’m asking. So remember to read Whats up Wakefield online at www.whatsupwakefield.com read Peeps Page, submit your answers to me and check out the rest of the site. Peace.
